Clinton County Prosecutor Intern
Application and requirements
The intern is expected to attend a certification course to be eligible for student practice under Supreme Court Rule 31.15. The course for summer 2025 Iowa prosecutor interns will be held at Boyd Law Building on May 27-28, 2025. Students must attend this uncredited, no-fee course on the scheduled dates and will be certified for student practice upon completion of the certification course. Please email law-fpp@uiowa.edu with questions or to register.
The intern is expected to work a 30-40 hour week for approximately 10 – 12 weeks starting on Monday, June 2, 2025. We plan for the Intern to take off an unpaid week for summer personal time.
A law school course in evidence is not a prerequisite to the Prosecutor Intern Program, but is strongly recommended. Trial Advocacy is also strongly recommended.
The Intern will practice primarily in the magistrate court. All the case work associated with the magistrate court will be part of the Intern’s responsibilities. Additionally, work on assisting the county attorney’s office in county civil matters is also an expectation. The ability to use electronic databases, computer programs and file electronically with the court is a must.
Typical Work
While work assignments are set by the Clinton County Attorney’s Office and will vary depending on the case load in the office, interms typically have an opportunity to prosecute simple misdemeanor offenses and, depending on the office, may assist with prosecution of aggravated misdemeanors or felonies. Students can expect to gain bench and/or jury trial experience and may have the opportunity to write and argue motions.
