Deputy Sheriff

Work schedule includes 12-hr rotating shifts with every other weekend off. Benefits include a healthcare option, life insurance, IPERS Retirement and paid time off after one year of employment (subject to union negotiations). Take-home patrol vehicle, uniform, duty gear, weapon and boots are provided.

Requirements:
In order to apply, applicants must be 18 years of age, hold a valid state driver’s license, either be a high school graduate, hold a GED or a (HiSET) High School Equivalency Test certificate, be a U.S. citizen and intend to become a resident of Iowa upon hire.

Required steps to apply if you are NOT A CERTIFIED IOWA PEACE OFFICER

  1. Apply via the county website- https://www.clintoncounty-ia.gov/employment/
  2. Complete the physical agility and written testing (Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 8:00)
  3. Attend the interview process if you pass the physical agility. Interviews will immediately follow the written testing portion.

Testing:                        

The Clinton County Civil Service Commission will conduct testing rain or shine promptly at 8 AM on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the Clinton River King & Queen Athletic Complex (1650 S 14th Street, Clinton, IA). Testing is required for applicants who are not already an employed certified Iowa peace officer. Applicants already an employed certified Iowa Peace Officer will NOT need to complete the physical agility and written testing portion, only the Civil Service interview process. During the physical agility portion, restrooms will not be available on site. Please wear appropriate clothing for the physical agility testing and bring a government issued photo ID such as a driver’s license. No alternative test dates are offered for sickness, vacation or other personal conflicts. The Civil Service Commission policy is to only offer an alternative test date due to military commitment, and only for a reasonable amount of time.
