District 3 Sub-Foreman
SUMMARY: Serves as Sub-Foreman to the Maintenance Superintendent, and office staff as needed. Under general supervision, supervises district employees engaged in maintaining county roadways. Performs and supervises general roadway maintenance work in a safe and neat manner and in accordance with county policy and as directed by the maintenance superintendent and the engineer. The Sub-Foreman will lead their crew by example exhibiting the behaviors and work ethic becoming of Clinton County.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Represent Clinton County and perform duties in a professional, responsible, and trustworthy manner.
- Maintains a positive working relationship with Secondary Roads staff, other agencies and departments and the general public.
- Provides customer service that is courteous and responsive to both public and other agencies and departments by email, phone, or in person.
- Must maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to complete work request/ order within deadlines, which can change at the last minute and maintain professionalism.
- Must have proficient organizational skills and able to prioritize.
- Supervise and evaluate maintenance staff conducting roadway maintenance and construction projects.
- Operates heavy equipment and other county vehicles in order to complete approved county maintenance and construction projects
- Schedule and coordinate maintenance and construction project work in the district in a timely and cost effective manner as directed by the maintenance superintendent.
- Instruct maintenance employees in the safe operation of equipment as required to complete county construction and maintenance projects in accordance with county policy.
- Maintain clean and safe work environment by performing daily cleaning of equipment, tools and work areas.
- Coordinate use of and delivery of materials and equipment, complete required notifications for utility locates and secure signed temporary easement agreements as required before beginning project work.
- May be responsible for early morning and/or evening roadway monitoring to determine if maintenance crews should be called out to work outside normal working hours as required by the maintenance superintendent.
- Maintain and submit documentation to the Engineer's Office for completed project work including maintenance blading, ditch cleaning, pavement patching, aggregate resurfacing, various work order forms as assigned, easement documents and utility locate information.
- Create and maintain an efficient and enjoyable work environment. Treat secondary roads department staff with honesty, respect and professionalism.
- Train and develop necessary skills of the maintenance staff.
- Control and monitor daily jobsite safety and traffic control in accordance with county policy and applicable standards.

Minimum Qualifications Requirements - (Education and Experience):
Education: High School diploma or GED required.
Work Experience: Five (5) years of experience operating equipment. Five (5) years of experience in roadway construction and maintenance preferred.

Work Environment:
Performs duties outdoors and is routinely exposed to varied weather conditions. Routine exposure to chemicals, engine exhaust, noise and hazards associated with traffic.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License is required.
