Shop Foreman
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Represent Clinton County and perform duties in a professional, responsible, and trustworthy manner.
- Maintains a positive working relationship with the County Secondary Roads office staff, other agencies and departments and the general public.
- Provides customer service that is courteous and responsive to both public and other agencies and departments by email, phone, or in person.
- Must maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to complete work by deadlines, which can change at the last minute and maintain professionalism.
- Must have proficient organizational skills and able to prioritize.
- Perform other job-related duties as necessary or assigned.
- Receives, stores and issues spare and replacement parts, equipment and other items used by maintenance crew.
- Counts, sorts and/or weighs incoming articles to verify receipt of items on requisition or invoices.
- Examines stock to verify conformance with specifications and documents amount of stock in inventory.
- Keeps accurate and current inventory of items placed in stock at the DeWitt Maintenance Yard.
- Maintain list of county equipment and licenses and submit charges to Engineer’s office.
- Requires knowledge of parts room methods and practices and knowledge of part and supplies in stock and their uses.
- Monitor and maintain fuel systems.
- Ability to read and understand equipment catalogs and place the most cost effective orders for materials.
- Cooperates fully with maintenance staff, and mechanics to facilitate the efficient operation of the shop.
- Interpret verbal descriptions of equipment malfunctions to accurately identify, diagnose and repair equipment-utilizing knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
- Perform preventive maintenance and make periodic inspections of Secondary Roads equipment to ensure appropriate maintenance and repair. Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records to document repairs and preventative maintenance in an organized manner.
- Operate diagnostic equipment; machinery and repair tools in a safe and effective manner.
- Fabricate, modify or mount equipment/attachments as necessary to meet operational needs.
- Maintain clean and safe work environment by performing daily cleaning of equipment, tools and work areas.
- Operate yard loader when unloading/loading material, equipment and supplies as required.
- Order, receive or pick-up parts as required.
- Operate truck or end-loader to assist in the removal of snow and ice from access drive and yard as necessary or assigned.
- Train and develop the skills of shop mechanics, including periodic evaluations.
- Control and monitor shop related costs and maximize budgeted resources.
- Perform other job-related duties as necessary or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Requirements - (Education and Experience):
Education: High School diploma or GED required. Two (2) years of formal training in heavy equipment repair OR equivalent number of years of experience performing heavy equipment repair required.
Work Experience: Two (2) years of experience performing heavy equipment repair desired. Two (2) years of experience providing direct supervision of personnel performing mechanical repairs to equipment.

- Ability to add and subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages.
Reasoning Ability:
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Work Environment:
Performs duties outdoors and is routinely exposed to varied weather conditions. Routine exposure to chemicals, engine exhaust, noise and hazards associated with traffic.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- Commercial Driver’s License is required.
