Birth records are maintained in the Recorder's Office, issuing certified copies of these records.
Vital records of births are available at the Recorder's Office for the years 1880-1920 and 1942-current. The State of Iowa Health and Human Services has the records for 1921-1941. Birth Certificates are available statewide back to January 1, 1986.
Unwed births, adoption records, and legal name changes prior to 1990 must be obtained from Iowa State Health and Human Serrvcies. Call 866-809-0290.
